This zine started out in January 2019 as an idea in Suzanne’s brain that she kept pushing away – there’s no time, how, why, when will I create a magazine? Finally, she asked Jenna, her writer friend, if she wanted to “play magazine”. It was a lighthearted endeavor that turned out to be a creative antidote to grief. Suzanne was healing from three failed IVF attempts and finding a new way forward, and Jenna from the sudden loss of her dad and soul person. They made the magazine, and, upon remembering that neither of them were graphic designers, enlisted the help of their brilliant designer friend, Alyssa, who elevated Wanderlings to what it is today. We now have a small editorial team who works hard to keep the zine a collaborative place to heal, have fun, and do what we love.
A value at Wanderlings is to get more voices at the table. This is how we grew from five to 14 contributors between the first to second issues. We hope other creatives and heart seekers find a home here. We hope all Wanderlings uncover a new side of themselves when creativity is allowed to run free.
Wanderlings Issue Four - MYSTIC - takes us from the earth to sky to right where we are in the present moment. As you flip through the issue, watch as the golden thread between each piece unfolds. Monique’s work on generational trauma plays on Jessie’s question: “Where do we come from?”. Enjoy a trip to Cuba from the lens of three different photographers and have a taste of Film Soup, even learn how to make your own. Settle into Speak Easy for a night of no holds bar poetry.
